Arguably Most Expensive British Home For Sale

Posted by removal8 on May 10, 2012 at 11:50 am. Filed under: Removal Companies

Campden Hill, Kensington boasts this mammoth 12 bedroom Grade II listed detached property for sale. If that wasn’t enough the buyer will also have the opportunity to extend the property to approx 30,000sq ft with planning permission already granted for a separate cottage, tennis court and a garden pavilion.

Currently this luxurious property consists of 12 bedrooms, 6 reception rooms, 6 bathrooms and a picturesque garden. No official price has been mentioned yet and it is available on application yet it is rumored to be valued at around £45,000,000. A high price one may feel in a market when there are talks of a double dip recession but mere pennies for the elite of this world.

8 out of the top 20 priciest properties in London are currently owned by wealthy foreign businessman with some just being used as holiday or business homes. This shows that while some are struggling to make ends meet others are fast making London their playground. Removal Companies will always do site visits to such properties.

Schedule Preparation and Organisation

Whilst not the most exciting words to hear, early preparation and reliable organisation can save a LOT of stress when moving day rolls around! You don’t always have a greatest amount of notice thanks to chains etc, so here’s a final month moving house checklist from our experts.

One Month Before
Time to finalise removal quotes and choose a house removals team to take care of everything come moving day. Also, begin boxing up smaller and less used items like Christmas decorations, fancy china etc. Mark boxes CLEARLY. As you pack boxes, number them and keep a list record of what’s in each box.

Two Weeks Before
This is your primary admin phase in the move. You want to be changing address for things like driving licences, voters’ registration, magazine subscriptions, bank accounts, school records, medical facilities etc.

One Week Before
There should only be the bare minimum left to pack, including a “Bare Essentials” box containing things you’ll need for your first night in the new home – clean bedding, towels, kitchen utensils, kettle, tea bags, cups, light bulbs, toilet roll, tools, batteries, power chargers, pet food, a few cleaning agents, torches etc.

One Day Before
Charge all electronic bits and bobs and pack away chargers in the morning (in the “Bare Essentials” box) Removals teams are skilled at what they do, but it can help if you make a list of what you’d like access to straight away at your new home. Removals teams LOVE well-labelled boxes, so spend the evening double-checking labels, seals and last minute packing.

Moving with Pets

There are plenty of things you can add to your moving house checklist to make sure the Big Move doesn’t scare the pooch or spook the cat!

Dogs
•    Dogs love routine, so try to fit lots of car journeys into their schedule to acclimatise them to the drive on Moving Day.

•    Again, establishing a sense of familiarity is important, so try to take the pooch for a few walks around your new neighbourhood in the run up to the move.

•    Before moving, on moving day and for a few days after, try to take pooch on the same walk. Dogs hate the unfamiliar!

•    Make sure you pack dog food, the dog bed and any toys and treats your canine friend might want for when you arrive at the new house. Removal companies love well-labelled boxes, so make sure it’s easy to find the pet supplies.

Cats
For cats, it’s essential that they feel safe and secure. Moving house can be very stressful for cats – they hate the car, they don’t understand why they can’t go outside, everything smells unfamiliar, they can’t find their relaxing sun-trap on the stairs etc.

•    Make sure kitty is surrounded by her favourite smells and toys (popping your own worn clothing in can help) on the actual move.

•    House removals can be noisy and a bit scary for animals, so put kitty in a room on her own until it’s all over. And don’t worry if she seems furtive, she just wants to explore on her own terms.

The Art of Packing

Posted by removal8 on November 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Filed under: Removals

Some folks are born with an innate sense of organisation (these are the people you want around on moving day!) But for those a little less than savvy, here are few golden rules from our house removals experts.

•    Heavy things go at the bottom of the box, lighter things at the top. It’s a simple consideration but a vital one nonetheless.

•    Note which boxes can bear loads when being packed by removal companies, e.g. a box full of china is not fit to have a box of DVDs placed on top!

•    It’s not always necessary to spend a fortune on packing foams and cardboard boxes. Most supermarkets recycle their packing materials these days, but department stores, appliance stores and outlets can be little goldmines!

•    Line boxes with plastic just in case it’s raining come moving day; bin liners can be ideal.

•    Pack clothes into plastic bags or bin liners, label each bag and then pack away in a box. It’ll make everything a bit easier when you REALLY need to find a snugly jumper in the chaos of endless boxes marked “Misc. Clothes”!

•    Don’t overfill boxes. Always keep the weight well within the limitations of what the box can handle. Removal services teams aren’t bionic mega-strength robots, so be mindful of weight.

•    Packing sensibly may be a bit of a broad recommendation, but it’s worth remembering, especially at 4AM when you’ve still got an entire room to pack and can feel yourself drowning in a sea of bubble wrap!

Spare Rooms to Earn Almost £23 Million during London Olympics

Posted by removal8 on October 30, 2011 at 7:18 pm. Filed under: Removals

Households in London near the Olympic site could earn almost £23 million during the Olympics next year. This will be a green shoot for everyone looking to earn an extra few pennies during these tough times. Homeowners will see rental demand increase on spare rooms during the Olympics next year.

It is thought that up to 23,000 homeowners have a either a spare room in their current property or a room that they only use for storage. During the Olympics these rooms will be utilised as they have good rental value for anyone who is only looking for a short term let.

According to Government data, the rental value for these rooms during the Olympic Games could reach up to £1000 per week. This is more than some of the properties will make in a month in a normal calendar. This is very appealing for the landlords who intend on taking full advantage during a time when the rents have gone down compared to last year because of all the new flats that are being built.

It is thought that more than 10% of these homeowners only actually ever use their spare rooms once every 3 months. This is due to work commitments and family homes outside London. Therefore this is an ideal opportunity for them to earn an extra income especially as their current rooms or properties are not being used.

Ashley from www.removalmarket.co.uk who are a removal quotes comparison site and help provide free removal quotes to clients around the London area have said: “We plan to see a rise of almost 400% in the enquiries for Removals in and around London during this busy period”.

Anthony Chenery, from Big Yellow Self Storage, said: “We have definitely seen a significant rise in inquiries for short lets of smaller self storage rooms for next June, particularly in the stores closest to the key Olympics sites and with good transport links to London’s top attractions.”

Although it has been advised that anyone looking to let their room or property out during the Olympics should inform their mortgage company and check their insurances to make sure they are covered. The last thing as a homeowner that you would want is for a short term tenant to create problems in a property and end up doing more damage than good in the long run. It is therefore vital that all relevant insurances are put in place.

If you’re getting ready to move house, you have our sympathy; a recent study showed that UK residents rate moving house almost as highly in terms of emotional stress as serious injury or a family bereavement. As professionals, at The Removal Market we work hard to make moving your precious furniture and possessions as easy and painless as possible. Read on for our top tips, and start your moving house checklist today.

Firstly, before you even start searching for the new place on right move, make sure that you know how much the move is going to cost. We don’t mean the new house, or stamp duty, but all the additional extras they don’t warn you about. Will you need help packing, moving furniture, or selling those possessions you’re getting rid of? What about somewhere secure to store your possessions while you’re waiting for the new place to open up? If you go for an Ebay or gumtree sale service, or pass you unwanted clothes, toys, or furniture on to a third party to sell them, be realistic about how much you can expect to make.

It’s always possible that something will go wrong in the process; but if you budget for it, plan for it, and do your homework, you’re as close as possible to disaster-proof. So get the number now for local taxi firms, an affordable hotel en-route, and start getting removal quotes from trustworthy companies well ahead of time.

How to Get the Best Removal Quotes

Posted by removal8 on September 25, 2011 at 4:38 pm. Filed under: Removals

Moving home can be a costly endeavour. Not only do you have to deal with the cost of the new house itself but various legal and solicitors’ fees can all eat into your wallet, and that’s before you even begin to think about the cost and practicalities of moving your possessions between properties. This means you need to look for savings wherever you can find them, and finding good deals on removal quotes would be a great way to achieve that.

In order to get the best quotes you need to be aware of several important considerations, the first of which being the day you’re moving on – Fridays, for example, are particularly busy for removal companies and will often be more expensive as a result. You should also consider the possibility of packing all your possessions yourself because if you require that additional service you’ll be paying more accordingly, and remember that your need for storage will also affect the price as will the purchase of any packing materials so it’s always wise to source your own boxes to keep costs down.

But, as well as taking a cold hard look at the specific services required, it’s also important to compare the options if you want to be confident in getting the best deals. Different companies will offer different prices for their removal services so it’s essential you don’t choose the first one you come across, and if you come to us you’ll get quick and easy access to several different quotes from which to make your decision. So, finding the best quote comes down to a combination of preparation, practical considerations and comparing the options, and if you come to us we can help make the process easier.
